Since I wrote those hurried lines¹ I was favored with your kind letter of the 26 Sept,² in which you suggest that Dr Gottsche of Altona³ ought to have the Lichenastra. This will be an excellent arrangement, in as much as he is such a masterly author among the Lichenastra, and as this will reduce your own labor greatly. Please send therefore the Lichenastra to Dr Gottsche. Indeed Dr Sonder informs me just by this mail,⁴ that Dr G. was engaged in elaborating several sent to him since he last published my species in the Linnaea.⁵

I learn also that Dr C. Mueller is about to publish a new enlarged edition of his synopsis muscorum.⁶ You will therefore be able to render any new kinds available to him from your descriptions, as you will have an opportunity to publish the diagnosis of any new ones in some botanical or other scientific journal. I should be very grateful, if you would put the cardinal character of the Diagnosis in Italics (or cursive letters) My Atlas of quarto plates of Victorian plants⁷ and 3 other volumes of my works are in readiness for you, to be sent in the next box, which may go to Dr Sonder or Dr Regel. The bryologic publications, which you so kindly dispatched for me by the post,⁸ did not arrive by last mail, but will very likely come by the next.

There is nothing in my little work on Australian mosses (only 24 plates)⁹ which you not find also recorded in the Linnaea.¹⁰ You will however receive it with the other books.
