To George Bentham   14 January 1869

14/1/69

I am glad, dear Mr Bentham, to hear of your famous progress again. The Verbenaceae will indeed prove very interesting. You will find a few additions to them and to Labiatae in the larger boxful of supplemental plants, of Monochlamydeae which is soon to be dispatched.1

The examination of the Lord Howe's Island plants, which I have now through Mr Moore's kindness in some quantity will prove to you, that Norfolk Island not only as a dependency, but also phytologically belongs best to Australia.

Let me hope your health and strength remain firm.

With best regards

Ferd. von Mueller.

Is your Garuga floribunda really decandrous. I have a species, seemingly referable to this genus, (G. tetrandra F. v M.)2 with tetramerous (tetrandrous) flowers from the Liverpool River. Your (but not Dr Hookers) Euroschinus belongs partly to Ganophyllum falcatum!3

No record of publication of Garuga tetrandra has been found.
MS annotation by Bentham: your [fr.] does not belong to the fl specimen. See G. Bentham to M, 30 September 1869.
