To Joseph Hooker 1    6 March 1869

Melbourne bot. gard.

6/3 /69

By the Steamship Summersetshire,2 dear Dr Hooker, you will receive the 50th case of Museum-plant. It contains mainly Salsolaceae, therefore the rest of the Curvembryonatae, with which Mr Bentham desires to commence the 5th vol. The Thymeleae and Rest of Proteaceae will follow early. Pray do not think, that I wish to burden in an unreasonable manner my commissions on you[r] department, when I venture to send you a package of Museum plants for Utrecht or Leiden (i.e. for Prof Miquel)

The fact is, that the case was not full the last morning, on which I could dispatch it to the Steamer. So I plunged the packages for Miquel in, to fill up the case. I suppose you have occasionally things to send to Leyden or Utrecht. if so, pray oblige me by forwarding mine along with yours; other wise pray hand it over to Mess Silberrad for transmission to Holland.

The Lichens I would like sent to the Rev Mr Leighton, to whom I owe a return sending for a splendid lot of British Lichens.3

One specimen of each species I would beg to get back. Kew can besides be well supplied as there are generally triplicates.

Always your
