To George Bentham   28 March 1869

28/3/69

I am glad, dear Mr Bentham, to receive already the 30 copies of vol IV, which have been distributed by the Government to public institutions, ministers of the Crown and the few principle contributors here in Australia to the work.

You will receive by the Anglesey 2 large cases, with the rest of Dicotyledoneae. Before the next volume will be printed there will however be some supplemental collections, I suppose, from various sources.

Maireana must certainly be united with one of Lindley's Kochias, as I will show in my notes on Salsolaceae.1 Indeed all Australian Kochias (inclusive of Browns K. aphylla) would be Maireanas except K. brevifolia. The character of the entirety of the fruit wing is however trifling and not even absolute.

Trusting you are well I remain

your regardful

Ferd. von Mueller.

The index of the 6 vol of the Fragmenta will now at last be printed. Meanwhile I have a good deal of manuscript ready for vol. VII.

The Monocotyledoneae will now be attacked, and Xerotes first of all, as I have a good deal done for years to get new diagnoses of all the species.2
