Ich breche unser langes Schweigen, mein theuerer Dr Haast, um Ihnen auszusprechen, wie angenehm es mir war Ihren Schwiegervater hier zu sehen. Ich hoffe der wackere Mann wird für seine Talente u Thätigkeit hier ein lohnendes Feld finden.
Vor einiger Zeit fragte ich vor, ob Sie noch wieder Pflanzen für Ihren Garten in dieser Jahreszeit gebrauchen. Die grossen Vertheilungen an Kirchen, Schulgründe usw finden im nächsten Monat statt u nachher würde schwerlich etwas vorhanden sein. —
Möchten Sie mir gütig mittheilen, ob einigermassen vollständige u gut erhaltene Skelette von Moas erkaufbar sind u zu welchem Preise.

I am breaking our long silence, my dear Dr Haast, to tell you how pleased I was to meet your father-in-law here.1 I hope the worthy gentleman will find here a rewarding field for his talents and profession.
A while back I asked whether you will again require plants for your garden this season.2 The large distributions to churches, school grounds, etc., will take place next month, and after that there would hardly be anything left.
Would you be so kind as to inform me if reasonably complete and well preserved skeletons of Moas can be purchased and at what price.
