From Ferdinand von Mueller to William Lyall   28 Apr 1869

Melbourne bot. Garden

28/4 69

Dear Mr Lyall

Your letter, dated 6 April, was yesterday placed before a meeting of the Trustees of the Royal Park, and I am directed to express the regret of our colleagues, that your remoteness from Melbourne continues to interfere with your attendance at our meetings, and that you thus have resolved to resign. Should this be your final decision, then the Trustees think your communication would need to be direct to the hon. the President of the Board of Land and Works, by whom we all vere appointed.1

Trusting that you still may be able to share actively in our labors I remain

Your regardful

(signed) Ferd. von Mueller

Lyall's resignation was accepted 31 May 1869 and notified in Victoria government gazette, 4 June 1869, p. 625. He farmed at Koo-wee-rup, c. 80 km east of Melbourne.
