From Ferdinand von Mueller to James Grant   31 Aug 1869

Melbourne bot. Garden

31/8/69.

Sir

I have the honor to solicit, that you will be pleased to give authority, that the sums under authority for the purchase of plants together with so much of the vote as to make up the sum of £120. - - may be transmitted to the Agent General in London by next mail. The small amount for the purchase of the draft or the bank-expenses would need to be added.

I have the honor to be your

very obedient

Ferd. von Mueller

The hon. the Pres. of the Board of Land & Works.1

Grant initialled M's letter. On 6 September 1869 the Assistant Commissioner for Crown Lands and Survey, C. Hodgkinson, forwarded M's letter to the Under Treasurer, E. Symonds: 'together with a special authority for the Purchase of the Draft in question'. Symonds replied on 13 September: 'The remittance has been made as desired'. M was informed of this action on 14 September and he replied on 17 September: 'Returned with best thanks'.

M to J. Grant, 5 April 1869, indicates that the 'plants' were part of Sonder's herbarium.
