To Joseph Hooker   5 October 1869

Melbourne bot Garden

5/10/69

I am very glad, dear Dr Hooker, to have the opportunity of introducing to you my excellent friend Mons. A. Thozet, F. LS., of Queensland. This Gentleman will be known to you already by fame as a large contributor of material for the Australian flora and as an enthusiastic horticulturist. From his estate at Muellersville1 he will likely be able to send many a fine plant to Kew, if he once will know all your requirements. Of Mr Thozets high-mindedness and generosity I cannot speak in term[s] too high. You as one of his sponsors will doubtless introduce him at the Linnean Society.2 For any attention shown to this esteemed friend of mine I shall feel greatly indebted.

With my best wishes for you

Ferd. von Mueller

At Rockhampton, Qld.
Anthelme Thozet was elected a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London on 17 January1867 on the nomination of M, George Bentham and G Busk. Hooker’s name does not appear on the nomination.
