To William Odgers   25 March 1870

Melbourne botanic Garden

25/3/70

Sir

I have the honor to inform you, that in accordance with the instructions of the honorable the Chief Secretary1 I have now secured the required quantity of seed of the Ironbark tree (Eucalyptus Sideroxylon) for the Central Government of India; and I beg herewith now to send seventeen pounds weight, fresh collected, and carefully packed into a tinlined case, addressed to the Assistant Secret. to Foreign Departm. Calcutta This consignment completes now the order from the General Government at Calcutta, three pounds weight of the seeds of Eucalyptus Sideroxylon having been sent by the January mail along with the finishing portion of the seeds of Eucalyptus Globulus.2

I beg to annex herewith the voucher3 for the whole 20 lb of the seed of Eucalyptus Sideroxylon, no account of the three pounds previously sent having been brought in. The price, 30/ pr lb, is the lowest at which these seeds were obtainable, the collecting of this kind of seed being far more difficult, than that of Eucalyptus Globulus

I have the honor to be,

Sir, your obedient servant

Ferd von Mueller, M.D.,

Director of the botan. Garden.
