From Ferdinand von Mueller to George Story   30 June 1870

Melbourne bot Garden

30/6/70

I ought to have written to you, dear Dr Story, long before this, to acknowledge the safe arrival of the sedges, grasses, waterplants &c which you so kindly secured this year. I was so much harrassed in my department, that I could really not gain the time for any exclusively botanical matters, this being the planting season and my time much occupied, especially since the Department became so much disorganized.

Your collection contains the rare Didymotheca thesioides, J Hooker, besides new localities for Ricinocarpus1 pinifolius [Desfont.], Caustis pentandra RBr, Hierochloa2 rariflora J Hook., and a few other. So I hope you will feel sufficiently encouraged to watch the plants around you.

Let me hope your health is firm & your mind cheerful.

With best regards

Ferd. von Mueller.

I hope you got the Cork Oaks &c &c safely through Mr Abbotts mediation
