To George Bentham   1 December 1870

Melbourne bot Garden

1/12/70.

It may interest you to know, dear Mr Bentham, that a true Ilex has been found in N.E. Australia, allied to Ilex Wightiana. I called it I. pedunculosa.1 A new genus of Araliaceae has also just turned up, belonging to the true Araliac[eous] section. I named it Motherwellia.2 After much anxieties in the Department, which indeed still continue, I have managed (though under real distractions) to finish a new number of the Fragmenta. It contains among other curious things a monostachyous Chloris.3

Trusting you are well

I remain your regardful

Ferd von Mueller.

The copies of the 5th volume4 did safely arrive.

I have settled the boundaries of many Haemodoraceae also more accurately then was known before.
