To William Odgers   1 March 1871

Melbourne Botanic Garden

1st March 1871

Sir

Referring to my letter of 23/2/711 I have the honor to inform you, that the calculation of cost per acre for the maintenance of the Botanic Garden during 1870 was made on the basis of 338 acres as the extent of the ground, which had up to that time been the area of the Garden and Reserves. As however about 30 acres were at the end of 1869 transferred to the Friendly Societies, the cost for wages would be per acre £6.6/3d, and not £5.12/4d as stated before.

I have the honor to be

Sir

Your obedient servant

Ferd. von Mueller

Director Botanic Garden

The Under Secretary2

M to W. Odgers, 23 February 1871.
On 2 March 1871 the Under Secretary, William Odgers, minuted: 'To the [Botanical Garden Enquiry] Board in connection with former letter'.
