From Marcus Clarke   8 March 1871

8th March. [187]1.1

Sir

I have the honor by direction of the above Committee to acknowledge your letters of the 19th and 28th of Feby and of the 7th of March2 and in reply to inform you that the Committee approve of the form of label enclosed for their inspection but think that one dozen for each kind would be sufficient for the present requirements of the Museum. Messrs Clarson & Massina's being the cheaper tender, the Committee would wish for to obtain the dozen sets of each label from that firm3

I have the honor to be

Sir

Your obedient Servant

Marcus Clarke

In fact, for the dozen labels the committee had decided was enough, Clarson & Massina's tender price was the same as Mason Firth & McCuthcheon's, but for larger numbers it was more expensive than theirs! See M to M. Clarke, 7 March 1871 (in this edition as 71-03-07a).
