From Marcus Clarke to Ferdinand von Mueller   11 Apr 1871

April 11 [1871]

Sir

The above Committee1 are anxious to give prominence to Phytology in the course of lectures about to be commenced at the Museum, having reason to believe that the Artizan Class will receive such instruction, as can be given in a lecture, on that branch of science with avidity.

As a sum of money has been placed at the disposal of the Committee for lecturing, they would feel indebted if you would consent to deliver a lecture on this subject on or about the 22nd of June2

I enclose you a printed list of the scheme proposed by the Committee3 and shall feel obliged by an early communication from you

I have the honor to be

Sir

Your obedient Servant

Marcus Clarke

Secretary

Dr. Von Mueller

M delivered a lecture on 'Forest culture in its relation to industrial pursuits', on 22 June 1871. It was later published as B71.13.03. See also M. Clarke to M, 19 April 1871 (in this edition as 71-04-19b).
