From Ferdinand von Mueller to James McCulloch   27 May 1871

Memorandum, conveying in a few words my views on the ascent of the Ker Ranges. It might be accomplished at a trifling expense by land from Cashmere Police station, thus not requiring subsidies from here. It would be important for geographic purposes, geologic and mineralogic exploration; it would certainly open new resources to Queensland, and would give the collector of the botanic Garden a favorable line for operations. My views in detail explained in the letter.1

Ferd. von Mueller.

See M to W. Odgers, 6 May 1871.

McCulloch minuted on this memorandum: 'If the proposed expedition is for the benefit of Queensland — certainly it will not be of any […] to this Colony — It will no doubt be undertaken by that Colony — in any case no portion of such expenditure will be borne by Victoria'.
