From Marcus Clarke to Ferdinand von Mueller   15 June 1871

15 June [187]1.

Dear Sir

The bearer of this note Mr James Clayton is desirous of establishing in his district — Evelyn1 — a new industry, the Cultivation of Flax. He thinks that the climate is most suitable and that he could prevail on the surrounding farmers to assist him in the project

He has applied to the [Industrial Museum] and I have taken the opportunity to refer him to you who will doubtless be able to give him the fullest and best information.2

I have the honor to be

Dear Sr

Yours truly
