From Ferdinand von Mueller to John Vettler   [Aug 1871]

[Dr. Mueller has kindly forwarded to Mr J. Vettler, manager of the Echuca Vineyard, 20 cuttings of the celebrated "Saltana"1 grape vine. The cuttings, we understand, have been sent on behalf of the commission for forests and foreign industries,2 and are of the species grown for the manufacture of table raisins. We have no doubt but that under Mr Vettler's skilful treatment the cuttings will thrive successfully; and, from what we know of the capabilities of the soil on the Yambuna Creek, we believe the result will realize the Doctor's most sanguine expectations.]
