From Ferdinand von Mueller to George Story   5 Aug 1871

Melbourne bot Garden

5/8/71.

My best thanks are due to you, dear Dr Story, for the kind sending of dried plants, which arrived here last week. I shall utilize the collection and gratefully remember the generous and venerable donor.

The supposed Sternbergia is Diplarrhena Moraea (Labill.)

The Myriophyllum with the narrow long floral leaves = M. variifolium of J Hooker. The other species is Myriophyllum elatinoides (Gaudichaud) But I anticipate you will find in brackish marshes near the coast the usually dwarf Myriophyllum Muelleri (Sonder) It has hoodlike solitary rather large bracts or floral scales.

Trusting that you are in enjoyment of good health I remain your very regardful

Ferd. von Mueller

I will send you some plants hereafter.

Diplarrhena Moraea
