From Ferdinand von Mueller to Julius Haast   10 Aug 1871

Melbourne bot Garden,

10/8/71

Melbourne Botanic Garden,

10 August 1871.

I have asked Professor McCoy, dear compatriot, to send you new contributions for your Museum, but the enclosed note expresses his dissatisfaction, that he did not receive the Diornis bones he had expected.

Well, with your superabundance of Moa materials that can be easily remedied.

Always your

Ferd. von Mueller.

Please do not insult McCoy, should there be a misunderstanding.

The following note was found attached to MS No 582, folder 209, M to J. Haast, 25 July 1871, but is obviously McCoy’s note referred to in this letter: 'What is Haasts message? He made such an offer some years ago & when I sent the box of Bird skins he sent no Moa bones but only some bird skins which I already had.'

Pp. 2-5 of this MS do not belong to this letter, but form the concluding 4 pages to MS no. 582, M to J. Haast, 25 July 1871.
