By this post, reverend and dear Sir, I beg to return to you the work on fossil vegetables by Bowerbank,1 thanking you much for the loan. I have been so fortunate to secure a copy since for my private library.2

Let me hope, venerable friend, that you are quite restored to strenght, such as at your advanced age you can hope yet to enjoy, and let me hope also that the evening of your active and useful life will be a long and serene one.
