From Ferdinand von Mueller to Frederick Barlee   10 Oct 1871

It is impossible to judge from a small piece of bark what plant may have furnished it. Mr Gill assuredly might have pressed a small branch with flowers or fruits into his notebook, when the precise name of the shrub could have been ascertained I believe it to be got from a species of Pimelea.

Pimelea

Text is an annotation by M on a letter sent to Barlee by Charles Gill and forwarded by Barlee to M for advice. Gill had written from Murchison, WA, on 7 August 1871, enclosing a specimen of bark from a shrub growing at Shark Bay that he believed could have commercial value as rope.
