1 parcel for Professor Petermann

per Somersetshire

23 January 187210

Skelette. Annotated by Krauss 'fehlt' [missing].

Paket?

Apterix In M's hand, above do. deleted.

Gummi (= resin)?

Annotated by Krauss 'Echin[oid]'.

Annotated by Krauss '305 spec.u. 358 St. darunter 29 neu für uns' [305 species and 358 specimens, among them 29 new to us].

'pr Somersetshire | 23/1/72' in M's hand.

Gummi (= resin)?

Tas? Though the clerk wrote 'f' (= für), it is most unlikely that M would have asked Krauss to forward this item; the entry must refer to a parcel from Georgetown, not one intended for it.

Somertsetshire left Melbourne on 27 January 1872; listed amongst its cargo were 'five cases specimens of natural history' (Argus, 29 January 1872, p. 4).

MS written by a clerk. The list may have accompanied M to F. von Krauss, 1 February 1872 (in this edition as 72-02-01b), in which M refers to sending this case, or it may be the list that Sonder in May 1872 told Krauss he was forwarding after receiving it from M (see W. Sonder to F. von Krauss, 20 May 1872 (in this edition as M72-05-20)). The latter is more likely since Sonder refers to the case's including a package that needed to be forwarded to August Petermann, as does this list. There is a pencilled note by M at the top of the list: '[…] braun gemalt' [… painted brown].
