From Ferdinand von Mueller to William Guilfoyle   10 Feb 1872

Melbourne bot Garden

10/2/72

The plant (tree) recently sent by you, dear Mr Guilfoyle, as number 2 is Bentham's Cadellia monostylis.1 The flowers are only known for generic determination, not the fruit. So there is some doubt yet by you to solve.2

With best regards

Ferd von Mueller

Cadellia monostylis

MEL 2235283, under Guilfoylia monostylis, AVH (accessed 12 March 2024) reports that the field notes are 'A most ornamental tree with large bunches of golden yellow flowers' and as occurrence remarks gives 'I climbed to an immense height for this through climbers interwoven through the branches of the tree'.

Guilfoyle found the fruit; see the description of the genus Guilfoylia separated from Cadellia in B73.04.02. p. 33, also M to T. Caruel, 21 April 1873 (in this edition as 73-04-21d), and M to G. Bentham, 25 April 1873.
