To George Bentham   15 February 1872

Melbourne bot Garden

15/2/72

I am just informed, dear Mr Bentham, that the money (£100 –) is available for you, whenever you may call at the Office of the Agent General so Mr Verdon writes.1

Always your

Ferd. von Mueller

Your letter of Christmas day just arrives.2

What a splendid contribution to science the new vol. of genera will be!3

I am glad you have the 6th vol of the flora in your masterhands.

I will despatch shortly the rest of the Monochlamydeae (Suppl.)

Pray tell me, whether you want the Orchideae.

May your health continue good.

After writing I got from the wreck of the Rangoon your letter of 24 Sept still readable though for days or weeks at the bottom of the sea!4

I know your wishes for Monocotyledoneae now and will attend to them. If you desire really Palms (as mentioned) then they are with Wendland.5 But they cannot be placed remote from Junceae and Xerotideae

G. Bentham to M, 24 September 1871. Rangoon struck a rock while leaving Galle Harbour on 1 November 1871 ( Argus , 27 November 1871, p. 5). The ink of this letter is now much more faded than that of Bentham’s other letters to M.
