From Ferdinand von Mueller to William Guilfoyle   1 Mar 1872

Melbourne bot Garden

1/3/72

The saxifrageous tree, dear Mr Guilfoyle, of which you just sent the fruiting fragments, is quite new. I had it from Mr Moore,1 but in leaf only — twice before. It is a somewhat abnormal Weinmannia, but not so much so as to constitute a new genus. The hairy or woolly covering of the capsules is very remarkable. The species will be described in the new volume of the fragmenta.2

Allow me to submit to you fragments of an other new tree, which through the aid of friends you might get perhaps from the Duck Creek3 in good flowers & fruit.

With best regards

Baron Von Mueller.

Do you think the fruit has always the long wool, and would your friend secure a good supply of flowering and fruiting branchlets of the rare Weinmannia?

I shall be glad to read your account of the district.

Please do not forget that I require the ripe fruit of Cadellia monostylis, the tree with bunches of golden yellow flowers, which to obtain you climbed into a tree
