Dear Doct.

I had a letter from His Grace the Duke of Buckingham and Chandos, respecting the proteaceous tree bearing the name of his Grace.2 The Duke's Gardener did not succeed to raise the seeds, which were transmitted, but I will endeavour to send living seedlings to Kew3 and beg much of you, should they arrive or should any of the transmitted seeds have grown to provide a plant for the Duke's conservatory.4

With best regards

Ferd. von Mueller

The salutation is unusual, but the content of the letter suggests that the addressee was Hooker.
Buckinghamia celsissima,described by M in B68.12.02, p. 248. See Duke of Buckingham and Chandos to M, 9 December 1871.
There is a large X inked in the margin against this line.
No evidence of transmission of plants from Kew to the Duke has been found.
