From Ferdinand von Mueller to Richard Gore   19 Apr 1872

19/4 Friday noon

Since writing to you this morning, dear Mr Gore, I got the parcel with Chath. Isl.1 plants safely at my town adress, where it was left. I have not even time to open it, but to be in time for the post I hurry merely off these few lines

yr

Ferd von Mueller

Chatham Island.

The letter is dated to 1872 by reference to M to R. Gore, 19 April 1872, which had been written earlier on the same day. The Museum's register of correspondence received records M's acknowledgement of the arrival of the plants as having been written on 17 April, but this cannot be correct because the ship carrying them did not arrive until 18 April; the present letter would appear to be what is being referred to.
