From Ferdinand von Mueller to William Guilfoyle   26 Apr 1872

Melbourne bot Garden

26/4/72

I am most grateful, dear Mr Guilfoyle, for the additional specimens of Weinmannia lachnocarpa. They prove the constancy of the characters, on which I based the description.

I do not know, whether it is asking too much from your generosity to keep in some box pieces of any kind of timber or fuel, that you happen to get under hands and about which you are sure as regards its species. All such material I can utilize for technologic researches. When such pieces of logs &c are kept together and ever a fair opportunity for transit arises, you may kindly send it off.

Pray tell me, whether I can send you any select trees, such as Amer1 & Himalaian Oaks, Amer. Walnuts, Amer Hickories &c, and if you wish me to direct them to your worthy father2

With best regards

Ferd. von Mueller

Various scientific friends ask me for resins & gums, scientifically (specifically) named. Can you help me

Weinmannia lachnocarpa

American.

Michael Guilfoyle.
