From Ferdinand von Mueller to James Hector   25 May 1872

Melbourne bot Garden

25/5/72

Yesterday, dear Dr Hector, I got the acotyledonous plants, kindly forwarded by you from Mr Travers collection,1 and for which interesting addition to my literary and museum material I offer my best thanks.

You will be aware, that all such plants can only microscopically be determined, a task on which I cannot enter within the planting season. I will however undertake the naming within a reasonable time. The genera of most I could have given at once but that will perhaps not be of much avail. In casting my eyes hurriedly over the plants I find that 26 is Cladonia retipora Floerke

45, 46 & 47 are Polyzoa2

42 is Hormosira Banksii Decaisne

34 is a Caulerpa

31 — Conferva Darwini Keutz3

3 — Ballia Brunonia Harvey

with best regards

Ferd von Mueller

Ballia Brunonia
