20 August 1872
Dear Sir,
I am directed by the Surveyor General1 — who has been obliged to leave the Office for the country on urgent business — to inform you that he has posted to your address, by steamer this day, three plans of the overland telegraph line2 as completed to June 30th.
In a few days the line will be finished and plans published, when the Surveyor General will avail himself of the pleasure of posting a few copies to you.3
I am Dear Sir
Yours faithfully
U. N. Bagot
Chief Clerk
Baron Müeller
&c &c &c
George Goyder.
The line between Adelaide and Darwin, then under construction. A letter from M dated 8 August, evidently requesting a set of the plans, was registered at the Department of Lands (GRG35/16, 1872, no. 1814, indexes of letters received, Department of Lands, State Records of South Australia, Adelaide), but has not been found.
See U. Bagot to M, 29 August 1872.
