Botanic Garden Melbourne,
11/12/72
Sir
I have the honor to solicit that you will be pleased to sanction the transfer of the sum of £74.10/— from the vote Reward to orphan-boys employed in the Botanic Garden to the vote for Wages. My original estimate for the former item was £91. - . - for the Botanic Garden and the Reserves together; when the division took place one half that sum, viz £45.10/—, was provided for Govt. House Domain, and, through some misunderstanding I presume, £120. - . - were voted for this item for the Botan. Garden.1 As the whole of this sum will not be required for this purpose, I respectfully request that the above named transfer may be granted, as I shall by this means be enabled to retain the services of gardener Morrison for the ensuing seven months.
I beg to refer to my letter of 3rd inst.,2 wherein I had the honor to point out, that the amount available for "Stores" &c would be insufficient to meet the requirements of the Department, and I have now again the honor to request, that the desired sum of £110.- may be placed at my disposal, to cover unavoidable expenditure for Forage for the carthorse, Coal for engine & conservatories, Fence-Wire and Calico for plant sheds, Paper and Bisulphide of Carbon for the Museum Bricks for gutters, timber for repairs, paint and other necessaries, urgently needed.
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your obedient servant
