From Samuel Hannaford   1873

120 specimens, in fruit as well as in flower, is a large number. — I have no idea what a fair remuneration would be.2

I notice amongst Mr Gulliver's plants the enclosed plant (Antennaria sp.) I find it commonly here (H. Town)3 by road sides, sides of ditches &c, much in the same situtations as we see Gnaphalium luteo album. I never found it in "cultivated ground" as Mr Gulliver has done.

Wishing you well through all your troubles and anxieties, I am, as ever

My dear Baron

Yours most sincerely

Sam Hannaford

The Baron Von Mueller

MEL has many specimens collected by T. A. Gulliver in the Central Highlands and West Coast of Tasmania in 1873; it is probable that M asked Hannaford to suggest a fair payment for this collection, and it is on this basis that the item is dated to 1873. It cannot be dated to earlier than October 1871, when news reached Australia that M had been appointed a Baron.
Hobart Town, where Hannaford lived for several years.
