From George Bentham   8 April 1873

April 8 /73

My dear Sir

By this mail I send you five sheets of the new volume of Flora Australiensis1 — I have returned three more sheets for press but have not yet received the clean copies

I am glad to see by your last letter that the Monocotyledons with inferior ovary are on their way[.]2 I have finished the Orchideae all but three or four genera of one or two species each — and a general revision of the whole. I have I believe 45 genera and about 220 species which is less than I expected the published species of Caladenia Prasophyllum Diuris etc have cut down very much. I hope to send off your specimens next week

I am very sorry to hear that you do not get quite right yet in your Official position but I sincerely trust all will be settled to your satisfaction

You may rest satisfied that your wishes as to the mode of designating you in the title page will be attended to3

I will put a copy of our new part of Genera Plantarum4 into the box with the Orchideae — it is rather heavy for sending by post

Yours very sincerely

George Bentham
