From Ferdinand von Mueller to Samuel Bindon   17 May 1873

Melbourne bot Garden

17/5/73

Sir

I beg to send for the industrial Museum a sample of the Sparta grass (Stipa tenacissima, L.) as prepared for exportation from Spain, Morocco and other countries at the mediterranean sea for paper material on a very extensive scale. Several of the paper samples, placed by me in the Museum some years ago are prepared from native species of Stipa and allied plants. The sample of "Sparta" now sent is the gift of one of my private friends in France, whom I recently asked for it.1

I am, Sir, very obediently your

Ferd. von Mueller

The Chairman of the Commission of the Industrial Museum.
