To George Bentham   20 May 1873

Melbourne bot Garden

20/5/73

I have not heard of you by last mail, dear Mr Bentham, which I take as sufficient indication of no more plants being required for vol. VI.1 than the Orchideae. At all events the large case pr “Hampshire” Capt Ridgers (without bill of loading under the Captain’s Care) will have reached you by this time, with part of the Monocotyledoneae (beyond Orchideae) with adnate calyx, the other part having been sent by the Sommersetshire in March, and will reach you under ordinary circumstances next month.

A huge box full of Liliaceae is ready, but should you not want them, until you have published the rest of the Leguminosae for Martius and Eichler,2 then it is better I keep them for the present here.

A note on Triglochin & Maundia (the latter with pendulous ovule) I have sent for you to Dr Hooker3

Trusting you are well I remain your

regardful
