From Ferdinand von Mueller to George Story   18 Aug 1873

Melbourne

18/8/73

Let me thank you, dear Dr Story, for your kind letter. When the fibre Stipa comes in flower with you again, I can easily identify the species, if sent.1 I think, that I told you already of my having forwarded a new essay to the RS2 of your island, in which your name as the Finder of rare plants frequently appears.

Would you not make known through a Hobarton3 paper the great success you had with the Cinchona plant.4 It would also show the people in what direction I was working here, when I had the means of doing a little good.

Your coast seems remarkably rich in Algae. Any from there, even dried in a crude state on shelves crisp without pressure I could utilize for descriptive purposes. They should be fresh collected and not washed, unless they were to be at once drawn up on paper there. But do kindly understand, that I do not wish to burden anything on you in your venerable age. Still you may take sometimes a walk along the seashore and be willing to pick up a few such things

With best wishes for your health & happiness

Ferd. von Mueller
