From Ferdinand von Mueller to Jacob Agardh   8 Sep 1873

Melbourne

8/9/73

I am writing only a few words with this mail, esteemed friend, to thank you for the kind naming and return of the algae,2 also for the valuable publications.

In a new paper on Tasmania's plants I have included the algae under your authority3 and also proposed you as honorary member of the Royal Society there.4

The list of the Chatham Island algae has been sent to the Philosophical Institute of New Zealand.5

With respectful devotion

your

Ferd. von Mueller

I hope that Lieutenant Blomstedt6 has arrived safely with the Alsophilas.

Please do not spend your precious time purely with naming algae on my account, but aim only at your own studies for the benefit of science. Do not be worried about the returning of specimens.

Could not your master's hand furnish us with a simple index with synonyms of the algae of the world?

Alsophila
