Let me thank you, dear Dr Hector, for the kind reception of the list of Algae, also for the sending of the two Restiaceae.1 If you could soon procure for me ♂& ♀ of the two additional species, of the existence of which I was not aware, you would add important material to my supplemental essay on the Australian members of the order,2 which essay must be soon brought to a conclusion for the 7th vol. of the Australian Flora.3 The new Restiacea from Chatham Island (Lepyrodia Traversi) might easily be procured, if letters were written to a few officials or settlers there & fragments for recognizing the plant were sent to them. Indeed other Restiaceae would likely turn up there, though perhaps not so conspicuous as Lepyrodia Traversi. Please ask them to collect these.
Our friend Dr Hooker is so much now engaged on the "genera" of Central African & Indian plants, that he gladly now leaves the N.Z. field to us here in the South.
your regardful
Ferd. von Mueller
Let ripe fruits be with the Restiaceae; if not fresh ones are on the plant, old ones can always be found, if carefully searched for.
