Livistona (Corypha) australis

Seaforthia elegans

Letter not found. The text given here is from Bulletin de la Société d'acclimatation, series 3, vol. 1 (1874), p. 52. The letter is dated to November 1873 as the latest likely date that it could have been sent to have been reported at the meeting of 9 January 1874.

The names were originally printed as Spaforthia elegans et de Livistona (Corypea) australis, but were corrected in an erratum note on p. 160.

At the meeting of 20 March 1874 it was reported (Bulletin, p 242) that 'M. Cordier, d'El Alia, demande à prendre part à la distribution de graines de Seaforthia elegans et de Livistona australis dont M. von Mueller a bien voulu promettre l'envoi à la Société' [Mr Cordier, of El Alia, asked to take part in the distribution of seeds of Seaforthia elegans and Livistona australis that Mr von Mueller had promised to send the Society]. The El Alia referred to is almost certainly the locality in Algeria, not that of the same name in Tunisia, as there are official notices in Moniteur algerién of various dates that refer to a M. Cordier of El-Alia.
