From Ferdinand von Mueller to Joseph Decaisne   17 Apr 1874

Melbourne

17/4/74.

In compliance with your wish, most honored friend, I have selected specimens of the Pandaneae from my Australian collection for your use, and shall forward them by this months post to my London Agents, Mess. C. Blackith, Cox's Quay, Lower Thames Street, with instructions to dispatch the parcel to you. I regret that the exemplaria are so fragmentary, but they are the best, which I have to offer.

Of Pandanus aquaticus I have none; what I collected in Arnhem's Land1 in the year 1855 was lost on the way to Sydney in the ship; 2 and while travelling around Carpentaria I did not like to burden the horses with anything I had gathered before. I have briefly referred to this species in the vol. V of the Fragm pag. 40.3

These specimens are a donation, poor as it is; so — please — do not trouble to return them.

Regardfully always your

Ferd. von Mueller.

My Reverence to your great colleague M Adolphe Brogniart4
