To George Bentham   17 May 1874

Melbourne

17/5/74

I wish merely to say, dear Mr Bentham, that at last the box with Liliaceae will be despatched by the Ship "Carlisle Castle", to sail at the end of next week. I regret the delay, but since 11 months I am even without the most needful manual aid through the withdrawal of the votes; — & my small salary, though entirely sacrificed for the service, is not sufficient to provide it

I will however push on the sending of the next boxes as quickly as I can. There will be 4 large boxes with Monocotyledoneae and one with ferns.

As Dr Hooker has large votes, I must ask, that the return is made free of freight.

Regardfully your

Ferd. von Mueller.
