What is your opinion, reverend and venerable friend, concerning the enclosed fungus. It occurs sometimes in large sheets in the stems of Eucalypts, but as I never found it myself, I have been unable to trace it to any metamorphosis, such as Nyctomyces or Xenodochus to Rhynchomyces. It reminds also of Merulius & the prepared state of Polyporus fomentarius

Regardfully your

Ferd von Mueller

In the enclosed list I have given only a few edible fungi.1 Surely many might be transferred from country to country

Merulius

Nyctomyces

Polyporus fomentarius

Rhynchomyces

Xenodochus
