From George Bentham   15 December 1874

25, WILTON PLACE. S.W.

Decr 15 /74

My dear Sir

Your second box of Monocotyledons arrived safe at Kew this morning. I now feel sorry to have asked for them so soon as I am still tied down by this part of the Genera1 at which I steadily work 6 to 8 hours a day but in case I should be carried off I have left memoranda about returning you the money and the plants — I received the other day yours in which you ask about sending the ferns2 — you had better not till I am far advanced in the volume as I do not feel certain that I shall be able to include them in this 7th and last volume — At any rate if you entrust them to Mr Baker it will be as a separate work for I do not like working in partnership — The Genera with Hooker is the only partnership I have ever entered into and would not do it with any one except him

We have all felt very much the sudden death of Mrs Hooker.3 Dr Hooker bears up with his loss wonderfully well though he feels it most keenly

Yours sincerely

George Bentham
