From Ferdinand von Mueller to Régulus Carlotti   [1875]

[In conclusion, I must inform you that Baron von Mueller of the Botanical Garden of Melbourne has had the graciousness to address to me a good quantity of seeds of Eucalyptus piperita. I did the sowing; the seeds germinated; but I do not know whether it can be advantageous to propagate this species.]

Eucalyptus piperita

Letter not found. The text given here is from a letter written by Carlotti to the Société d'acclimatation, Paris, read at the meeting of 18 February 1876 (Bulletin de la Société d'acclimatation, series 3, vol. 3. pp. 111-3). The letter discusses Carlotti's experience with Eucalyptus at Ajaccio, Corsica. The extract given here is from p. 113. Carlotti ended his letter with a request for advice from the Society on the utility of this species for forestry.

The reported letter from M to Carlotti is difficult to date, but it was probably no later than mid-1875, given that the seeds were planted and germinated.
