Muellerville1 8th February 75.
My dear Baron,
The plant broken to fragments in my envoiee of the 16th December last, and supposed to be discovered here, during my absence, is a Brazilian plant: Stigmaphyllon ciliata.2 I willingly reechoed the report of being indigenous, after comparing it with our Ryssopterys timorensis.
Notwithstanding my careful watching, the fruits of my Peak Down Cassia have been, again, this year eaten by grasshoppers, I send you the remains of one; it will afford you to notice that the Peak D. Cassia, instead to be 1 f.3 long and almost cylindrical like in your Cassia Brewsteri, is flatened and not above 5 in. long. Should this beautiful Cassia turns new, could you kindly name it in honour of Sir Charles Nicholson?
Toujours
your most affectionate
friend
