To Joseph Hooker   23 March 1875

I write a few lines from here, dear Dr Hooker, being on an excursion to the various Lakes and Swamps of the W. part of this colony, where I can in the autumnal season best observe for a few days the various Water plants. As yet I have seen no new species, but obtained notes on many for the 7th volume.2

Dr von Haast has lately visited this colony, when I had the first opportunity of meeting him personally. He speaks highly of your kindness to him. Let me hope that in the sadness of your grief your health is not undermined, especially as you have florishing children to cheer you.3

Regardfully always your

Ferd. von Mueller.

Some prints will go to you by this months post from Melbourne.
