I send an additional sample of ripe fruit & young fruit & flower of the Upright Musa – I find that this species very rarely has suckers – the increase being by Seed which grows very freely – as wherever ground has been cleared for a camp it comes up thick all over it. = Hills “Bowenia” has not any ripe flowers but I [...]1

MS found with specimen of Musa hillii collected by Fitzalan and named by M (B75.11.02, p. 169). Dating based on a separate scrap of paper attached to specimen sheet, in M’s hand: ‘Musa Hillii | Daintree River [Qld] Oct 1875’.
