M had been sent a copy of 'Map of explorations undertaken by direction and at the expense of T. Elder under the command of Ernest Giles: from Beltana Station in the colony of South Australia to the city of Perth in the colony of Western Australia' with G. Goyder to M, 31 December 1875. It is probable that here he is acknowledging receipt of E. Giles (1876) and the 'Map showing the routes travelled and discoveries made by the exploring expeditions equipped by Thomas Elder and under the command of Ernest Giles between the years 1872-6, the National Library of Australia's copy of which is digitized at http://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-232133673. This map shows the journey to Perth and the earlier attempts by Giles, and the routes of some other explorers in central Australia.
