To Edward Ramsay   7 June 1876

7/6/76.

I thank you, dear Mr Ramsay, for your liberal sending of Cycas seeds.1 Dr Seemann identified the Fiji sp. as Cycas circinalis L. In this he may or may not be correct. The fruit is not sufficient, to discriminate among the Cycades.

A leaf from Fiji in my collection is shining on both sides as in C. circinalis of India, but the main-characteristics rest in the flower scale (male) & fruit scales or raches. You might easily procure these. I should also like to see a little more of C. Cairnsiana, so far as ♂ flower raches & fruit raches are concerned.

With regardful remembrance

Ferd. von Mueller.
