It is pleasing that you have the Albert-palm, as it will have a great sale in Engl., where the Prince Consorts memory is kept sacred by so many of the Nobility2

Royal Horticultural Society, London. Letter not found; the membership records of the Society for this period do not survive and the Society's Journal that would have reported an extract from its Proceedings was not pubished covering the meetings from 1873-1877 inclusive. Fellowship of the Royal Horticultural Society is not mentioned in Ramsay's obituaries (see Etheridge (1917) and ADB). At this period the Royal Horticultural Society was in financial difficulty, and no record of elections has been found until February 1877, after which Ramsay was not among those listed in the newspapers as one of the many elected in the next year. M to E. Ramsay, 12 July 1876 suggests that Ramsay may have asked to be nominated, although M did not becoome a corresponding member until November 1878.
